melissa lou koerner

Melissa ‘Lou’ Koerner is a licensed therapist who attended graduate school at Fordham University in New York City then earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 2000. She became licensed in clinical social work in 2013.

Areas of expertise are with adults, geriatrics, kids/teens, and families struggling with any of the following: depression, anxiety, PTSD/trauma, ADHD, personality disorders, grief, adjustment issues, parenting challenges, adoption, foster care, and infertility issues.  She has also had extensive training and practice working with individuals of all ages who have experienced trauma. Lou is progressive in her treatment approaches and is informed about neuroscience and the impact of trauma on the brain. Theraplay is her preferred modality in working with young children, which is structured and evidence-based modality, not just play therapy.  In treating depression and anxiety, Lou uses a variety of approaches both cognitive and behavioral.

There are many, many paths to healing and Lou trusts that each person is the expert in themselves and will provide her with a roadmap to tailor an effective and efficient plan for change.
